We live in a time when information shapes every decision we make, from the medicines we take, to the products we buy, to the voices we believe. But the way information is created and consumed has changed. Today, deepfakes can put words in people’s mouths, scams can drain a lifetime of savings, and misleading promotions can blur the line between truth and advertising.

At the same time, fact-checkers, journalists, technologists, and community leaders are working to protect the integrity of what we see and share. The rise of AI is not just a challenge but also an opportunity: to build smarter tools, better policies, and stronger collaborations that put people first.

At TIACoN 2025, throughout the day, we will look at the health risks of misinformation, the tricks of scamsters, the responsibility of platforms and creators, and the future of fact-checking in the age of AI.

By bringing together diverse voices, we aim to build a shared vision for an information ecosystem where trust is the norm and where users, consumers, and citizens are the ultimate winners.

Unmasking The Health Infodemic

Providing Accurate and Trusted Health Information for a Healthier India

India is witnessing a remarkable surge in public interest around health, nutrition, and fitness. This growing curiosity is reflected in the rising number of health-related searches on search engines and AI platforms, as well as the overwhelming volume of advice shared by influencers, creators, and self-proclaimed ""experts"" online.

However, not all this information is credible or evidence-based. Since human physiology is deeply individual and ""one-size-fits-all"" solutions are often ineffective, how can we ensure that people have access to accurate, verified, and trustworthy health information?

Deceptions In The Digital Marketplace

Empowering Indian Consumers To Make Informed Choices Online

With the explosion of digital advertising, brand endorsements, influencer collaborations, and product reviews, today's consumers are presented with a dizzying array of options.

Although all stakeholders, from brands to platforms, carry a fiduciary responsibility toward their audiences, commercial interests often overshadow consumer welfare.

How can consumers navigate this crowded and confusing landscape to access reliable, high-quality information, and whom should they trust?

Scamland: India Fights Back

Helping Digital Nagriks Protect Themselves from Online Scams and Fraud

Reports suggest that Indians lost over ₹7,000 crore to online fraud in just the first five months of 2025, following losses exceeding ₹23,000 crore in 2024.

Scammers are increasingly deploying sophisticated technologies, often intertwined with criminal networks, including elements of human trafficking, to exploit vulnerable individuals.

What measures are currently in place to combat this growing menace? What challenges persist, and how can we better safeguard citizens in the digital age?

Is Regulation The Answer?

Examining Legal and Policy Frameworks to Tackle Misinformation

Misinformation and fake news continue to pose serious challenges to India's information ecosystem.

While the Central Government had proposed the establishment of a Fact-Checking Unit, several states have already developed their own mechanisms to counter the spread of false or misleading information.

Can regulatory interventions truly curb the misinformation epidemic? And how do we ensure that such measures do not undermine the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression?

AI Content and Reality

Safeguarding Citizens From Harmful and Misleading AI-Generated Content

In recent months, the rapid evolution of generative AI has transformed how multimedia content is created and shared. Tools such as Nano Banana, Sora, Veo 3, and Flow are redefining creative possibilities, but they also blur the line between reality and fabrication.  As deepfakes, synthetic voices, and AI-generated misinformation become more sophisticated, the risks to public trust and individual safety continue to grow.

How can policymakers, platforms, and citizens work together to build safeguards that ensure AI serves creativity and innovation without compromising truth and integrity?

Detecting Deepfakes Workshop
A workshop on how to detect deepfakes and AI-Manipulated media

In an age where AI can fabricate faces, voices, and entire realities, discerning truth from manipulation has never been more critical. This hands-on workshop will equip participants with practical skills to detect deepfakes and AI-generated media.

Learn to spot visual and audio anomalies, understand the technology behind synthetic content, and explore real-world cases of AI misuse. Whether you're a journalist, educator, policymaker, or technologist, this session will help you stay ahead of emerging threats and contribute to a more informed, secure digital ecosystem.

Scamguard

Show & Tell 8
After Panel 4

5 mins

The Quint’s media literacy and awareness program, Scamguard, was launched in 2023 with FactShala Innovation Lab, supported by GNI. It was a series of interactive guides designed to help users spot and avoid online scams, from job frauds to UPI cons. Combining real-life stories with safety tips, Scamguard was lauded for its engaging, user-focused approach and won Gold for Best Fact-Checking Project at the WAN-IFRA Digital Media Awards South Asia 2025.

In 2025, the initiative was revived with funding from IFCN and YouTube from the Global Fact Check Fund (ENGAGE round).

Since the beginning of 2025, our editorial and research teams have closely monitored scam trends by collecting multiple instances and speaking to victims. This helped classify scams into ten core categories, including UPI scams, loan scams, utility bill scams, job scams, e-commerce scams, lottery scams, investment scams, and more.

The latest iteration of the initiative aimed to deepen community engagement, especially in regional contexts, and build local resilience to fraud and scams.
